# MemoWord - Vocabulary Learning App: Full Documentation

> MemoWord is a vocabulary builder and flashcard app for iOS and Android. It helps all language learners save, study, and memorize their own custom vocabulary using smart repetition, flashcards, quiz and on-the-go modes. Positioning: "Like Anki — only easier. Like Quizlet — just smarter".

## How to Add a Flashcard
1. Open the "Add" screen ("FlashCards")
2. Enter the word/phrase in the Base language (top field)
3. Enter the word/phrase in the Target language (bottom field)
4. Tap the ✅ button

**Speed tips**:
- Use dictation (Microphone icon)
- Paste from clipboard (Copy/Paste icon)
- Use Google Translate auto-translation (works both ways)

**Additional options**:
- Add a note (example, transcription, or association via ℹ️ icon)
- Listen to pronunciation (🔈 icon)
- Choose from "Other translations" list
- Set the part of speech (colored marker on the left)
- Choose one or several Sets to save the flashcard into

> All new flashcards are first saved to the "My words" Set. You can change the default Set by going to the Sets screen, swiping the Set row right, and tapping ⭐️.

## Working with Sets
**View flashcards in a Set**: Tap the Set row.

**Set as default**: Swipe the row right and tap ⭐️.

**Share a Set**: Swipe the row right and tap the "Share" icon.

**Edit a Set**: Swipe the row right and tap ✏️.

**Study a Set**: Swipe the row left and tap 🎓.

**Repeat a Set** (reset "I know" status): Swipe the row left and tap "Repeat" ↺.

**Delete a Set**: Swipe the Set left and tap 🗑️. Choose to delete the Set and its flashcards, or delete the Set but keep the flashcards (moved to "Default" Set).

**Create a new Set**:
1. Open the "Sets" screen and tap the "Add" icon (top-left corner)
2. Enter a name (required) and optional description
3. Check "Use as default Set" if needed
4. Tap "Save"

**Special Group Sets**:
- **All flashcards**: All your vocabulary with search in both languages
- **I know**: All flashcards marked "I know"
- **Difficult**: All flashcards marked "Difficult"
- **Repeat**: All flashcards marked "Repeat"

## Vocabulary Collections (Ready-made Sets)
1. Go to the "Sets" section → tap the "Download" icon (top right corner)
2. Wait for the list to load and choose the Set you need

**Search tips**:
- Browse by topic (e.g., TOEFL, verbs)
- Search by level tags: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2

**Labels**:
- 🔸 **Free**: Sets included in your Premium subscription
- 🔸 **$**: Sets available for an additional fee
- 🔸 **Share**: Sets shared with you (appear at the top)

> Ready-made Sets aren't available yet for all language pairs. Teachers who want to share their Sets can write to help@memowordapp.com.

## Importing Vocabulary from Excel (Premium feature)
1. Open the "Sets" screen
2. Tap the "Add" icon (top right corner)
3. Enter the Set name and optional description
4. Tick "Upload flashcards from EXCEL"
5. Select a file to upload

**File format**:
- Column A: Word/phrase in the Base language (mandatory)
- Column B: Word/phrase in the Target language (mandatory)
- Column C: Part of speech (in English, optional)
- Column D: Flashcard note (example, association, transcription, optional)

> No empty or merged cells in the first two columns. During the trial period, you can upload 1 Set.

## Web Account Features (memowordapp.com)
- Move groups of flashcards from one Set to another
- Browse with different sorting options
- Delete flashcards in groups
- Share flashcards with friends or students

## Pronunciation & Text-to-Speech Setup
**For Android**:
1. Open device Settings → "Text-to-speech output"
2. In Preferred engine, choose "Speech recognition and synthesis from Google"
3. Select "Install voice data"
4. Find your language, listen to samples, and download the voice
5. Adjust speech speed and voice pitch
6. Restart MemoWord

> Also download the voice for your Base language (required for "Learn On-The-Go" mode).

**For iOS**:
1. Open the "Pronunciation" section in MemoWord Settings
2. Choose voices for both Target and Base languages
3. For enhanced voices: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices
4. Find the language, listen to samples, and download the voice
5. Return to MemoWord Settings → "Pronunciation" → select this voice
6. Adjust speech speed

## Learning Modes

### 1. FlashCards (Active vocabulary learning)
**How to use**:
- Select Sets and open the mode
- Swipe through flashcards, recalling the translation
- Flip to check yourself
- Listen to pronunciation and say the word/phrase aloud
- Flashcards repeat in a loop until marked as "I know" or refreshed

**Controls**: Tap to flip, swipes to switch, ✏️ to edit, ℹ️ for note, 🔈 to listen, 🔄 for new session.

**Premium features**: Auto-flip, Auto-play.

**Statuses**:
- "I know" (swipe ⬆): Removes from session, adds to "I know" Set
- "Difficult" (swipe ⬇): Increases repetitions, adds to "Difficult" Set
- Remove status: Swipe in opposite direction

### 2. AudioCards (Train recognition by sound)
**How to use**:
- Select Sets and open the mode
- Swipe through flashcards in a loop, try to recall translation by listening
- First tap shows Target language side, second tap shows Base language side
- If recognized easily, keep "I know" status to remove from session
- If struggling, remove "I know" status to keep in session

**Controls**: Tap to flip sides, swipes to browse, ✏️ to edit, ℹ️ for note, 🔈 to listen, 🔄 for new session.

### 3. Learn On-The-Go (Passive listening)
**How to use**:
- Select Sets and open the mode
- Choose which language plays first, number of repeats, pause duration, sorting, and loop
- Listen and recall the translation

**Options**:
- Order of Base/Target language audio
- Number of repeats in both languages
- Sorting: Set order / alphabetically (Base) / alphabetically (Target) / random
- Play in a loop
- Pause duration between languages
- Large on-screen display of spoken words

**Player controls**: ▶️ play, ⏸️ pause, ⏹️ stop, ⏪️ rewind.

> Tip: Switch the order of languages from time to time to practice recalling translations both ways.

### 4. Quiz (Active recall practice)
**How to use**:
- Select Sets and open the mode
- Look at the flashcard and choose the correct translation from options
- Correct answer: Green highlight → move to next
- Wrong answer: Red highlight → must pick a new one

**Results**:
- Correct: Keeps "I know" status
- Wrong: Loses "I know" status, moves to "Repeat" Set

> After the session, the app offers to review mistaken words in FlashCards mode.

### 5. AudioQuiz (Listening comprehension practice)
**How to use**:
- Select Sets and open the mode
- Listen to the flashcard and choose the correct translation from options
- Correct answer: Green highlight → move to next
- Wrong answer: Red highlight → must pick a new one

**Results**:
- Correct: Keeps "I know" status
- Wrong: Loses "I know" status, moves to "Repeat" Set

### 6. Write (Spelling practice)
**How to use**:
- Select Sets and open the mode
- Type the translation in the middle field and tap the checkmark

**Results**:
- 🟢 Green: Correct → flashcard removed from session
- 🔴 Red: Wrong → must be written at least two more times
- 🟡 Yellow: Correct with hints → will appear again

**Hints**: 🔈 Listen to pronunciation, 🔠 Reveal first letters.

> If the translation seems correct but isn't accepted, check for typos, extra spaces, or unrecognized characters. Edit the flashcard to correct it.

## Managing Flashcards
**In a Set list**:
- Search works in both languages
- Tap on a row to Edit
- Long press to Pronounce
- 🎓 to Study Set
- Delete: Swipe row left and tap 🗑️

**Premium sorting**: Alphabetically, by list number, by status.

**Status labels**: 🟢 "I know", 🔴 "Difficult", 🟡 "Repeat".

**Managing statuses**: Swipe the row right to set or remove statuses (moves flashcards to corresponding Sets).

> Deleting a flashcard from service Sets removes its status but does not delete the flashcard itself. If a flashcard is in multiple Sets, deleting it from one does not remove it from the others.

## Synchronization
1. Enter and confirm your email in "Settings" → "Account & Subscription"
2. Install MemoWord on a new device using the same email
3. Receive and confirm the registration code

> Your flashcards will be available and automatically synchronize on all devices (some delays possible).

## Exporting Data
**Download a Set as Excel**:
1. Log into your account on memowordapp.com
2. Select the desired language profile
3. Select the Set and click "View"
4. Click the "Download" button above the flashcards list

> Only flashcards you created yourself can be downloaded. Materials from collections or shared Sets can only be used in the app.

**Takeout (export all flashcards)**:
1. Make sure your email is set in the app under "Settings" → "Account & Subscription"
2. Open Takeout
3. Enter your account email
4. Within 3–5 minutes, an Excel file with your flashcards will be sent to you

## Deleting Flashcards
**Delete a single flashcard**: Find it in the list, swipe left, tap 🗑️.

**Delete all flashcards in a Set**: Find the Set, swipe left, tap 🗑️.

> Bulk deletion is available in the web account on memowordapp.com.

## Hidden Features & Shortcuts
- Quick search across all flashcards: Long press the "Add" icon in the bottom toolbar
- Set info: Long press a row on the "Sets" screen
- Pronounce flashcard in list: Long press the flashcard on the "FlashCards in a Set" screen

## Trial Period
- Starts automatically and lasts 3 days from the creation or download of your first flashcard
- During this period, you can try full functionality within limits: 100 flashcards, 1 Set from collection, 1 XLSX file import

## Subscription & Cancellation
**Prices** vary by country (App Store and Google Play include taxes and fees). Check "Settings" → "Premium — Subscriptions" for your region.

**Cancellation**:
- **iOS**: Device Settings → Tap your name → "Subscriptions" → select subscription → "Cancel Subscription"
- **Android**: Google Play Store → Profile picture → "Subscriptions" → find subscription → "Cancel"

**If you can't subscribe** (e.g., no bank card): Write to help@memowordapp.com.

**Entering a promo code**: Enter the code on the "Account & Subscription" screen (case-sensitive, no quotes).

**When Premium expires**: MemoWord offers a choice to purchase/renew Premium or switch to Free mode with limitations.

**If Premium expires but you have over 100 flashcards**: No flashcards are deleted. You just won't be able to create new ones until you reduce the count.
